Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a slow wood. The heartwood has been distilled for incense, ceremony, and perfumery across South and Southeast Asia for centuries, and it earned the slot for one reason: it stays. In the line, sandalwood sits at the bottom of one scent, Sandalwood Spice, where it carries the base note. The spice runs over it. The wood holds the room.

In the wash, the lather reads first as warmth, then as wood, then as the room you walked through an hour ago. The towel carries it. The shirt carries it. The shoulders carry it longer than the chest does. Where a citrus scent leaves on a fast curve, sandalwood leaves on a long one. It does not announce itself. It just stays close.
